Huge Design Mistakes To Avoid

Interior decorators are trained to know what looks good and what doesn’t when it comes to decorating your space. They have a trained eye for details and can take any ordinary room and make it extraordinary with the right furniture and accents. But not everyone can afford an interior designer to come and help them design their own space, so here are a few design mistakes an interior designer would never make, so you shouldn’t either:

1.     Don’t overdo it…

If you want a balanced room, you don’t want to over-furnish your room because then it will look too cluttered. Your goal is to fill the space, as well as create a space that’s both appealing and functional. When you cram too much into a room, it can make it look smaller and it will be hard to entertain or get around. There should be enough space in a room to create a flow and it should never feel too crammed. And sometimes it’s not that there is too much furniture, but how it’s placed, which can also make a room seem crammed.

2.     Fit your furniture to the space….

Like your clothes, you’ll want to make sure that each piece of furniture you add to your space fits the room. If it’s too small, your room might feel unbalanced, but if it’s too large, it will feel cramped. Make sure that you measure anything before buying it, because if not, you can end up with a cramped space that’s not balanced.

3.     Poor lighting…..

Lighting is one of the most important elements when it comes to interior design and the last thing you want is to be a victim of poor lighting in your space. You’ll want to have as much natural lighting as you can so don’t block natural light sources with accessories or curtains. Enhance natural with placement of mirrors across the natural light source so that it bounces around the room. Also opt for proportionally sized and well placed lighting in your space to enhance its overall lighting. You want it bright enough to illuminate the room, but you don’t want it to be so bright that it’s jarring.
